Q. Do I need to use butter or oil to grease my grill plates?

A. No. The grill plates are coated in our George Tough™ Triple Nonstick Coating. This eliminates the need to oil the plates, for healthier cooking because you’re not adding any fat for nonstick grilling.

Q. What is the thickest food I can cook on my grill?

A. This design features a 1½” float & lock hinge that allows you to cook cuts of meat or other foods up to 1½ inches thick.

Q. Do I need to turn food during cooking?

A. No. Your grill is a contact grill, which means it cooks food from both sides automatically.

Q. Why do my grill plates have cut marks on the finish?

A. You may have used metal utensils to place or remove food on your grill. Metal utensils such as metal forks will scratch the George Tough™ Triple Nonstick Coating on the plates. Always use heatproof plastic, nylon or wooden utensils.

Q. Why are the grill marks on my food so light?

A. Most likely, food was placed on the grill without preheating. To get restaurant-style grill marks on your food, you must preheat your grill for at least 5 minutes before placing food on the grill.

Q. Why is my food overcooked?

A. Your grill works by contact grilling both sides of the food at once. As such, any recipes you use from a source outside your Use & Care Manual will generally give the times needed to cook the food on a stovetop or conventional grill. Use the cooking chart in the Use & Care Manual as a guide to help you determine the optimal time for the food you’re preparing.

Q. Why will my grill not turn on?

A. This new style of grill features an On/Off switch, located on the side of the back right leg of the grill. If you have owned other George Foreman® Grills in the past, they did not include this feature and would simply turn on when plugged in. This On/Off Switch was added as a convenience feature. Make sure the switch is in the “on” position; if your grill still does not work, make sure the outlet you are using is a working outlet.
